Our clients thought
Staub is one of my favorite cookware brands. I love cast iron and have a lot of it, including two enameled cast iron Dutch ovens from well-known brands (though they were actually made in China). I inherited one from my dad and purchased the other before I knew about French enameled cast iron cookware in general and Staub in particular. My dad and I compared the two brands; both seemed to be of good quality and lasted for years, but they were far from perfect—the enamel on one was easily chipped, and the interior of the other developed cracks and began to flake off.
In the years since, I discovered Staub and started building up a collection. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship is outstanding. Staub Dutch ovens are beautifully finished with several layers of gorgeous enamel (that resists chipping) and feature a very heavy, durable matte black interior. The lids are self-basting. Although they are pricey, I usually treat myself to a different piece for the holidays each year. I have two of the figural pieces (the tomato and the pumpkin—so charming and useful, too), the medium-sized coq-au-vin, a 3.75-quart French oven, and three Staub Dutch ovens (4-quart, 5.5-quart, and 7-quart). I thought my collection was complete, though I wouldn’t have minded if someone gifted me the cute artichoke figural piece.
Anyway, I had been using my dad’s Dutch oven as a designated pot for making yogurt, cream of wheat, and oatmeal when I noticed the flaking. I liked using it for this purpose because it was taller than my Staub Dutch ovens.
I was thrilled to see that Staub had introduced a tall version of the 5-quart Dutch oven, so I ordered it in matte black. It looks great and is perfect for many things—yogurt, of course, but also soups, stews, and baking bread. The size is versatile and just right for smaller families. The price was $199.99 when I purchased mine, which I thought was a good deal. I’ve been looking for a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law (a great cook), and I see they are now only $149.99! There are also some fantastic new colors available! This Staub Dutch oven is definitely worth the price, as Staub enameled cast iron is gorgeously finished, well-made, robust, and durable. Everything I make in these pots turns out flavorful and delicious. It is ten times better than the less expensive enameled cast iron I used previously. My older ones still look brand new. I know I will be passing all of my beautiful Staub pieces down to my children and grandchildren someday, and I’m sure they will enjoy using them for years to come.

Among the many options for cooking vessels, I chose and purchased a cast iron Staub Dutch oven in a classic round shape with a wooden handle, made in France.
Cast iron itself is a safe material for cookware. It is composed of iron and carbon. The Staub Dutch oven is coated with black enamel both inside and out. The only part not coated with enamel is the upper edge on the rim.
Without a doubt, the enamel gives the Dutch oven a distinguished and presentable look. However, in terms of safety, enameled cast iron is not as good as uncoated cast iron.
It is not recommended to store cooked food in cast iron cookware. Additionally, the Staub Dutch oven is quite heavy. Nevertheless, I purchased it without hesitation:
In a cast iron Dutch oven, you can indeed cook meat, fish, potatoes, and vegetables to achieve a golden, crispy crust. All dishes prepared in this Dutch oven turn out with excellent flavor!
Cast iron is safe, and enamel is a minor concern compared to aluminum, titanium, and other coatings, including Teflon.
The cast iron Dutch oven does not deform from prolonged heating at high temperatures.
The Dutch oven is easy to care for: it needs to be washed with warm water, a soft sponge, and dish soap, then dried with a cloth. If used carefully—avoiding drops—it will last a very long time.
The diameter of the Dutch oven is medium, measuring approximately 9.4 inches (24 cm). The rim height is about 1.6 to 2 inches (4-5 cm). The bottom thickness is about 0.2 to 0.24 inches (0.5-0.6 cm).
The Dutch oven weighs 6.6 pounds (3 kg). It has two handles: the main handle is long (about 10.2 inches or 26 cm) and made of wood, and the secondary handle is short, made of cast iron in a loop shape.
Thanks to these handles, the Dutch oven can be held with both hands. This is definitely very convenient when moving or carrying the heavy Dutch oven with all its contents.
The Staub Dutch oven is suitable only for gas and induction stoves. It cannot be used in the oven or any other heat source, as the wooden handle is not removable. This limitation does reduce the functionality of the Dutch oven: you can’t bake a pie in it, but Staub offers special cast iron baking forms for that purpose.

Staub Dutch Oven: A Game-Changer in My Kitchen . I used to think all Dutch ovens were pretty much the same. Boy, was I wrong! Since getting my Staub Dutch Oven, it’s become the star of my kitchen. This Dutch Oven is a powerhouse! It’s made of heavy cast iron with a lid that keeps moisture locked in tightly. But it’s the little details that really set Staub apart. The lid has smart spikes that keep my food moist by basting it with its own juices. No more dry, flavorless chicken or overcooked roasts! Everything comes out beautifully moist and packed with flavor. It’s as if a mini rainforest is in my pot, keeping everything nicely moist.
This Dutch oven is a workhorse that tackles any recipe I throw at it. It handles all types of cooking, from stews to steaks seared at high heat. The cast iron heats up evenly and retains heat like a dream, so I know my food will cook consistently. Plus, the smooth enamel bottom means I can use it on any kind of stovetop, which is a huge convenience. Staub Dutch ovens are built to last a lifetime. The enamel coating is super thick and feels really high quality. I love that it goes right from the stovetop to the oven, and can handle crazy high temperatures – 900°F without the lid! Cleanup is a breeze too. Although it’s labeled as dishwasher safe, I prefer to hand wash it as the enamel cleans easily. There are a few things I wasn’t expecting to love so much about this Dutch oven. The matte black interior is amazing for browning! I see how my meat is browning well, and it covers up any marks on light-colored surfaces. Speaking of stains, this enamel cleans up like a dream! Let’s not forget how gorgeous this Dutch oven is. It comes in so many beautiful colors, and I went with a classic black that looks sleek and stylish on my stovetop. It’s definitely a conversation starter – I always get compliments on it! Staub Dutch ovens may not be the cheapest, but they are worth every penny.
The quality is unmatched, and this pot is built to be a kitchen workhorse for decades to come. In fact, I’m already eyeing a smaller Staub for everyday cooking tasks. If you want a Dutch oven to improve your cooking and be a favorite in your kitchen, choose Staub! I can’t recommend it enough. Worth Every Penny.
